Become a real Cotswolds Discoverer
Launched earlier this month in time for the 2012 season, the Cotswolds Discoverer is a new, integrated bus-and-train ticket aimed at encouraging more visitors to use public transport to both get to, and around, this famous UK tourism hotspot.
The ticket provides unlimited rail travel in and around the Cotswolds, including Swindon, Kemble, Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Ashchurch (for Tewkesbury) and on the North Cotswold Line between Oxford and Moreton-in-Marsh. It also provides unlimited bus travel with participating operators: Cotswold Green, Johnsons Excelbus, Pulhams Coaches, RH Transport and Swanbrook.
The Discoverer ticket - which is valid seven days a week anytime (after 8.50am Monday-to-Friday for rail users) - can be bought at any UK rail station and on the participating bus services.
Prices are: one-day Adult £10, and three-day Adult £25. Reductions are available with Railcards, and prices are half price for children under 16.
It is anticipated that more bus operators will join the scheme in the future, but in the meantime, itinerary suggestions using the new ticket have been prepared for visitors to the Cotswolds. These, and other details - including links to timetables and a downloadable leaflet - are at: www.escapetothecotswolds.org.uk/discoverer.
The initiative has been developed by the Cotswolds Conservation Board with First Great Western, Cotswolds Tourism, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire County Councils and local bus operators - and will initially run for a trial period of 6 months, until October 2012. It is then hoped that operators will continue to operate the scheme in the future, with a view to enhancing the offer further by incorporating discounted entry into attractions and extending the area of coverage.
Promotional leaflets will be printed shortly and distributed to railway stations and Tourist Information Centres throughout the Cotswolds.
