A free family nature discovery day is taking place on the beautiful Bannerdown Common on Saturday 6 June from 11am to 3pm.

The grasslands of the common will play host to a celebration of nature and wildlife and will be opened by entomologist, explorer and the BBC’s One Show ‘bug man’ Dr George McGavin.

The day will include: guided mini-beast safaris, nature walks, storytelling and a whole host of opportunities to unleash your creative side; including the chance to make your own bee hotel to take home; and of course the opportunity to explore and learn about the nature and biodiversity of the Common.

Bannerdown Common is situated 3 miles north-east of Bath and one mile north-east of Batheaston on the road to Colerne. There will be a drop-off point at the common and plenty of free car parking a short walk away.

Bring a picnic with you to enjoy. Well behaved dogs are also welcome!

The family Nature Discovery Day is one of a number of events taking place during the Cotswold Grassland Week (6-14 June). A total of 15 events are due to take place from Bath to Chipping Norton. These events have been organised to highlight the fantastic wildflower grasslands of the Cotswolds.

Grassland Week has been organised as part of the national conservation project - Save our Magnificent Meadows. Save our Magnificent Meadows (SoMM) is a partnership project co-ordinated by Plantlife, which comprises 11 organisations including the Cotswolds Conservation Board (CCB) and is primarily funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  The project is working with landowners and communities to protect, conserve and restore their local meadows.
