From 10-13 September, thousands of volunteers across the country invite you to experience local history, architecture and culture in the country’s largest heritage festival – Heritage Open Days.

On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September The Old Prison in Northleach will be holding free guided tours by Cotswolds author and historian Michael Banks. Tours take place at 11am on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. No booking required.

A visit to The Old Prison offers you a unique glimpse into life in a 19th century House of Correction. Built in 1792, this Grade 2* historic building was a fine example of a model prison and its use continued as a penal institution, court or police station for nearly 200 years.

There will be free children’s activities in the court room and a visit to The Old Prison wouldn’t be complete a visit to the Cotswold Lion Café, with a wide range of delicious home-made and locally sourced lunches, sandwiches, soups and cakes along with speciality teas and coffee.

Why not roam the interactive map online at www.heritageopendays.org.uk to explore other buildings and locations across the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and beyond to plan your visit!
