Caring for the Cotswolds
Being the perfect host creates the perfect visitor

Caring for the Cotswolds is a scheme where tourism businesses ask visitors to voluntarily support conservation by donating a very small amount of money via their bill or fees.

We know our beautiful area attracts millions of visitors each year; however these large numbers can impact on the environment on which our tourism industry relies so heavily. Money raised by tourism businesses will go towards a range of important landscape and environmental projects across the Cotswolds to help conserve our natural beauty and ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations.

About Caring for the Cotswolds

Businesses participating in the scheme will help to raise money which will be used to support a range of environmental and landscape projects across the Cotswolds.  These projects are delivered by the many committed organisations who are working hard to look after the things that make the Cotswolds special. These projects will:

  • Conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the landscape
  • Manage and restore habitats for wildlife.
  • Manage and improve footpaths and bridleways.
  • Look after the area’s distinctive historical heritage.

We hope to put out another call for projects in 2017.

Manor Cottages were the first company to contribute to the scheme and they still contribute more each year than any other single company. They raise contributions from bookings on over 270 self catering holiday destinations and then double the money raised out of their own profits.

Chris Grimes, owner of Manor Cottages urges other businesses to follow suite:

"It is so rewarding to be able to raise funds that go directly back into environmental and conservation activities, supporting the outstanding landscape on which our tourism industry depends."

"I have found that the vast majority of our customers are more than happy to make a simple donation towards this scheme and as we have made the process ac easy as possible, we are able to make a significant and regular contribution in this way. Setting it up has also been very simple to do and I would therefore encourage other tourism businesses in the Cotswolds to consider joining this scheme so that we can really make a difference on a much bigger scale."
